“During the days and months we spent together in the company of great whales, it struck me that Jason is not only a wonderfully skilled cameraman but a pretty fascinating marine mammal in his own right. After a full day of boat-driving and free-diving to record whale behavior on video, he would head to one of his favorite reefs and hang out underwater there for a while, practicing holding his breath while watching the smaller saltwater creatures go about their lives. Finally, he would go inside to spend the evening hours editing video projects. Yet sometime after dark, the man would be on the move again, having stepped out to run for several miles by the sea.
